Fishing Offshore Port Aransas, TX on "Fintastic"

We had a great trip off South Baker in January 2009. Mark was with us from Austin, TX. We had a 2'-3' day. He caught this Mako on 80lb. braid with a 50+ diving rig with steel flex cable. We were running our new G-Tek squid teaser with menhaden oil chum line. This Mako destroyed the rig!

The fishing offshore from Port Aransas in 2009 is going to be absolutely phenomenal! Hurricane season in 2008 as well as astronomically high fuel prices caused the vast majority of boats to stay home and hope for better times.

2009 fishing will produce a bumper fishing season. Remember to bring the kids...they are only little for a short time and something about offshore fishing makes memories for a lifetime.

If you are considering a first-time offshore fishing trip, I would highly recommend the Scopolomine patch. Dramamine ruins the day due to drowsiness but use it if it's your only choice. The Scopolomine patches can be obtained with a phone call to your local physician. Be sure to purchase a fishing license for all 18 years and older and we are a B.Y.O.B. and B.Y.O.L. (bring your own lunch) boat.

March of 2008, I witnessed one of the most amazing things I've ever seen while fishing offshore about 12 miles from Packary Channel. The kingfish were literally jumping completely out of the water trying to chase bait. They were full sized king jumping every bit of 8-10 feet out of the water! It was a truly amazing fishing trip. Something we see often, especially on calm days, are the dolphin coming to play with the boat.

I am looking forward to warmer water and the blue water moving in closer. Mahi-Mahi should be great as the spring water gets warmer and the Ling will be moving through soon on their way to Mexico and much warmer southern waters.

The deep indigo-blue water is almost always located around Hospital Rock, Big Southern and North and South Baker.
